National Surveillance and Control Program of Tucura Grasshoppers

The tucuras are a type of native grasshoppers which inhabit a wide region of this country.
Due to the weather conditions, as well as crop handling issues (drought, direct sowing, etc.), the population levels of this grasshopper have risen significantly; as a consequence, considerable damage is caused on grasses and crops.
In order to deal with this problem, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing of Argentina decided to set up the National Surveillance and Control Program of Tucura Grasshoppers.
The goal of the program is to promote steps that will enable to adequately handling this pest, as well as to reduce its potential occurrence in the involved provinces and the subsequent damage to the agricultural production.
The National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA - Servicio Nacional de Sanidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria), through its Argentine National System of Surveillance and Monitoring of Agricultural Plagues (SINAVIMO - Sistema Nacional de Vigilancia y Monitoreo de Plagas) provides official information on the activity of this pest in the Argentine territory. The link below leads to an up-to-date map with the locations where these grasshoppers concentrate in the different production areas of Argentina.
